Dear Pickens Friends,
As we find ourselves in the throes of the holidays, with the approaching New Year and the deep winter months ahead, the time for reflection and renewal nips at our toes. I’ve personally been reflecting on all of the exciting changes Pickens Arts & Cultural Alliance had made over the 0last year, and the great potential I see for us looking ahead.
In 2024, PACA took some major steps for our non-profit that will strengthen us internally and allow us to be more of a resource for our arts and cultural community. Most exciting, perhaps, is the board’s decision to hire a part-time executive coordinator to assist us with database management and development, community outreach, membership, programming, office staffing, and more. This step is critical for us to grow and reach our full potential. We also have new and energetic board members and plans for committee development in 2025. PACA has applied for a grant through Georgia Humanities, as well, and we plan to pursue other grants, including the Georgia Council for the Arts.
PACA was founded in 2007 to support arts and culture in the community. I take this responsibility very seriously. I will work along with the board to fulfill the charge and push the envelope of possibilities. We will continue to support the successful Youth Art Month and ArtWalk Jasper events, and are excited to be able to provide $16,000 to arts and culture groups.
English poet John Donne wrote, “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the Continent, a part of the main.” PACA is no exception. My vision is for PACA to be a highly-visible, engaged, and viable asset for our community. I’d like to invite you to join us as we grow, and to be a part of that Continent. We need and want your input and ideas as we seek to work together to bring exciting things to Pickens County. I hope to hear from you all as we forge ahead, out of the deep winter and into a bountiful 2025.
